Ramen Girl…

Jeannie has been itching to eat at a Ramen restaurant ever since we got to Hawaii.

She used to eat at them all the time when she lived in Japan.

Jason Chin recommended a place in Waikiki so we all went there.

It was interesting.

Most of us had never had anything like it.

Jeannie was in heaven.

Jeannie woke up at 6:30am this morning.

Shortly after, she woke me up.

So, I'm tired.

I'm in Starbucks right now trying to download Project Runway and Top Chef while listening to the Cubs game.

That's right. I'm still listening and watching Cubs game even though they frustrate me to no end.

In a few hours we are going to a Ramen restaurant in Waikiki. It's a place that Jason Chin recommended as his favorite place in Honolulu.

While sitting here surfing the internet I ran across this article on CNN. It's about hotels in Europe where travelers can spend the night sleeping beds of hay. Here's a picture of what it looks like.

We went surfing today.

I got up all four times, but fell soon after. The longest I was up was 7 or 8 seconds.

Robyn meanwhile was phenomenal!!!

She stayed up and rode the entire wave on 3 different attempts. She was up 40 to 50 seconds.

It was absolutely amazing!

Jeannie was so impressed that she thinks Robyn should enter surfing contests like the one we see in Blue Crush.

Afterward, we celebrated by eating burgers at the Burger Shack.

It was a fun, but tiring day.

It was Chris' birthday yesterday.

We went to a sportsbar in Maui for lunch to celebrate.

"mr special order" was very upset when he found out that they hadn't put the pickles on the side. Since the pickles had actually touched his bun, he had to peel away every part where the pickles had touched.

That's not a bagel folks. That's his burger bun.

It's been a frustrating day.

Jeannie and I went to see Quentin Tarrintino's "Inglorious Basterds" and 2 people behind us talked through the entire movie.

They had a running commentary throughout the entire thing. There was no point they weren't talking.

Afterward we played tennis.

I did not play well.

It's frustrating because I had been playing really well lately and then really stunk it up today.

It was all my fault. It wasn't because anyone was hitting the ball so well that I couldn't return it. I was just mis-hitting everything.

On Wednesday I fell on my racket and cracked it. Today, I got so frustrated at myself that I threw my racket. Well, that cracked it somemore.

It's still useable…but I don't want it anymore.

Good riddance!

Thursdays have become a very important day for my mental health.

I usually run 3 miles in the early morning, shower, and then pack up my computer and head off the ship to do some writing.

It's become very theraputic and really helps me to feel like I live a normal life.

Usually Jeannie meets up with me at some point in the day and we go out to eat.

Tonight we ate at a place called La Bamba.

It was good.

And, more importantly, I got a lot of writing done.

So I guess Carolyn Minor wrote a book...

Oh brother.

I had E-Bay drama today.

Since I bought my new iPhone, I have not used any of my other iPods. I decided I needed to sell them. I put two of my iPods on E-Bay and sold them without any trouble. I didn't make a lot off of them, but enough to warrant selling them.

I mailed them off on Thursday at the post office in Kauai. When I got back to my cabin I looked around the room and said aloud, "What else can I sell in here?"
My excitement was muted however this morning when I got an e-mail from one of the buyers claiming that he hadn't received his ipod.

This was his message: "Dude wheres is my Ipod,u just sent some kind of wire only, where is mi ipod,u already took my payment & no ipod.that not cool.gave me my money back."

He wasn't claiming that the box had been opened and the iPod was taken out. He was claiming that I never put the iPod in the box!

This guy was trying to get a free iPod!

I then checked my account and discovered that he had filed a grievance with E-Bay and PayPal and had managed to get my accounts locked.

I sent off e-mails to E-bay and PayPal disputing his false charges. To my relief, both E-Bay and PayPal dismissed the claims immediately after I e-mailed them and my accounts were unlocked and the money that he had paid for the item was released into my account.

It was explained to me that there are a lot of scammers who make false claims like this knowing that there are people out there who fall for it and refund their money.

So frustrating.

Brett on the other hand has a different type of e-mail issue. He bought some items on e-bay 4 weeks ago and has yet to receive them.

E-Bay is such a good thing, but there are always scammers and thieves out there who ruin everything.

The Podcast...

I've gotten a lot of comments lately from people who are confused and mystified by our podcast.
Not by the content, but by how you go about listening to any podcast in general.

Same thing for iTunes.

People are confused and scared by iTunes and podcast.

Well, for those of you out there who are confused, let's resolve this.

If you go to the home page for our podcast, Aphasia Presents Something..., you can listen to our show directly from that website. It does not download to your computer. It just plays there when you select it.

Now, if you'd like to download it and listen to it later, you can do that on iTunes. Now, to my surprise, I've heard from lots of people who are scared of iTunes. Don't be!

Download iTunes.
Select the menu that says iTunes store.
In the upper right hand corner, by the magnifying glass, search for Aphasia Presents Something.
Click on the podcast and then push the button that says "Get Episode".
You can also subscribe to the podcast and have it automatically downloaded to your computer when a new one becomes available.

That's it.

It's very easy.

Then, feel free to write a review of the podcast or click a star rating.

Now that you know how to do it, feel free to jump over and listen to our newest episode. We put new ones up every Sunday and Thursday.

Make a movie...

I think this was on Molly Wilbank's blog, but I'm reposting it to make sure everyone sees it.

It's been a long week.

Good week, but a long one.

Full of rehearsals, sightseeing, games and fun.

We had planned on going on a helicopter ride in Kauai, but it got rained out. Very disappointing.

We did however get to eat at our favorite restaurant Mariachi's in Kauai.

It's the closest thing we have to authentic San Antonio Mexican food.

This afternoon after a fun breakfast , we said goodbye to Nate and Matt.

We officially have 14 weeks left in our contract.

Turtle Park…

Today we went to Turtle Park in Kona.

I'm a veteran snorkeler and was super excited to see some fish I'd never seen before.

We also saw this...

Lots of fun to be in the sun and see some sea critters.

Jeannie was fully prepared to be very scared of the turtle. However, she ended up loving it.

Jeannie was so excited about the turtle that she drew this when we got back to the ship.

The cutest thing we saw was…

It is literally, the calm before the storm right now.

We are sitting here docked in Kahului waiting for Hurricane Felicia to roll in.

This is the fifth or sixth (or seventh) hurricane I've been through on the ships. It's not as bad as you might think. The waves rock and roll, but it's never really dangerous.

The annoying part of it all is that it's going to rain for the rest of the week, due to the storm.

That's especially annoying because we have Matt and Nate, our director and producer, on board.

We had all these things we had planned to show them and we're not going to be able to because we'll be confined to the boat. Ugh.

We have been able to show them a little bit. We took them to Twin Falls yesterday.

It was a lot of fun. Brett, Robyn and Chris all jumped off one of the waterfalls.

Everyone got to swing on the rope swing. Even Jeannie!

After a day of running around through the jungle looking for waterfalls we stopped in the hippy town of Paia and had lunch. In my eternal search for good pizza, we stopped at a place called Flat Bread Pizza.

It's an organic pizza place.

It was okay. I liked the wood burning stove and the crust and sauce were good.

But, the pepperoni and cheese were lacking. As Matt said,"this pizza needs some nitrates!"

After that we raced up Haleakala Mountain.

We were trying to get up there before the sun went down.

We gave ourselves plenty of time, but for some reason, Chris, Jeannie, Brett and I got locked out of our rooms and our keys wouldn't work. That set us back forty minutes. Then we got stuck behind a green mini-van that was freaked out by all the turns and only went 15 miles per hour.

We got up there just as the sun was starting to drop.

So, Matt and Nate got to see most of the mountain.

They also got to see a cool sunset.

Right now we have 3 hours before the rain is supposed to start. We're going to do our best to utilize our sunshine and we're going to head out and play as much tennis as we can before the rains start.

After that, who knows.

Puka Dog…

On Saturday Jeannie and I ventured up to Waikiki.

On the Hawaiian episode of Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservation's" he visited a place called Puka Dog.

It looked very cool and interesting so we set out to find it.

It was actually pretty easy to find. It was right around the corner from the hotel we stayed in a few weeks earlier. It's also a block away from the Apple store.

The cool thing about Puka Dog is that they place the buns on spikes that cook and warm the inside of the bun.

They then squirt in a glob of garlic sauce and relish.

Their are tons of different relishes to choose from.
Coconut, mango, pineapple, papaya and guava are just a few examples.

They then slide in the grilled Italian Sausage Dog into the toasted bun and add a little more relish.

Jeannie had a mango relish dog.

I had a coconut dog and a spicy Lillikoi mustard dog.

They were all fantastic.

Mad Men...

As August rolls around Jeannie and I are getting excited for our favorite shows to return to TV. We're especially excited for Project Runway beginning on August 20th. Top Chef starts August 19th. Curb Your Enthusiasm begins September 20th.

And, of course, Mad Men.

My friend Melissa sent me a link to a create yourself as a Mad Men character game.

Here's mine:

Here's Jeannie's:
