My computer...

So, I have to say, I'm completely enamored with my new Macbook Pro laptop. I never expected to love it this much. It's fantastic. It's completely changed my life.

Yesterday we arrived in Maui and were able to check our mailbox. Brett's gift from Jeannie arrived.

Also, we found a new oddly named product at Ross Dress For Less.

I found this video on YouTube. Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig had their performances interrupted in the Broadway play "A Steady Rain" last week when a theatergoer's cell phone went off in the front row.

Good for them! How is it that people still don't know to turn off their cell phones at theaters or movies or improv shows!?!

On Saturdays I'm teaching an eight week improv class at Laughtrack Theater.

They are a really fun class.

It's also nice to have something to do every Saturday.

We've been here in Hawaii so long that we've pretty much done all the touristy things. It's great to have a "normal", weekly activity. And, it's great just to spend the day hanging out with improvisers. I miss that.

Brett's birthday…

Yesterday was Brett's birthday.

Jeannie decorated his door.

Unfortunately, it kind of looks like a wall of boobs. I don't think Brett minded.

Also, unfortunately, the present we ordered for him didn't arrive in the mail. We got him a Jamba Juice gift card to tide him over until we get back to our mailbox in Maui.

We ran into Brett at the mall and went to see a movie with him.

You know how much he loves his Jennifer Aniston movies.

A few things…

My computer has been coasting on fumes. It's 5 years old and has been heavily used over that time.

In the past few weeks it has been dying a slow death. My spellcheck stopped working. My thesaurus disappeared. My grammar-check imploded. All of my writing tools stopped working. For the last 150 pages, my writing program has been a rudimentary notebook.

I also cannot edit video or operate most of my software.

With all these problems, I still managed to use it 6 to 8 hours a day writing and using the Internet. There were some days that I swear I saw smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.

Yesterday, I bit the bullet and bought a new computer. Not just any computer though. I bought a Mac!

I am now "that guy".

Yesterday I taught the first of an 8 week class at Laughtrack Theater in Honolulu.

Afterward, we went to a hot dog restaurant called "Hank's Haut Dogs".

This is not your ordinary hot dog stand.

I had a Fat Boy hot dog, which was a deep fried hot dog wrapped in bacon.

I also had a Duck and Foie Gras hot dog.

This was all accompanied by French Fries cooked in Duck Fat.

Holy moley. Crazy.

I was accompanied by Kim, Shannon, Aaron…

…Larrissa and Scott…

We all ate very well.

The Foie Gras dog was a Saturday special.

Here are the other specials of note:
Tuesday-Alligator Hot Dogs
Wednesday-Rabbit Dogs
Thursday-Buffalo Dogs
Friday-Lobster Dogs
Sunday-Kobe Beef Dogs

There's a chance I'm going to find a way to try all of these.

The final bit of news is a little personal.

2 weeks ago in Kauai, Jeannie and I got engaged.

Here's the bench where it happened.

I have been on a writing roll.

4 weeks ago I came up with a new idea I wanted to write about.

Yesterday I finished it.

I have completed 4 books now. 1st one was published. 2nd one was bought by NBC. 3rd one was bad. And now, this one.

I now go back to the beginning and do a second draft.

The good news is, the hard part is done. This second phase is time consuming, but not complicated.

It's interesting to me how quickly I was able to complete this first draft. "Guru" took 5 weeks. "High Rollers" took 3 weeks. "f", my 3rd manuscript took 2 1/2 years!

Hopefully, I'll have better luck getting this one published. I may need a new agent.

By the way, here's where I did most of my writing for this project.

It's easy to be inspired with this kind of view.

On Sunday we all gathered to watch the Bears game.

I even broke out my brand new Urlacher Bears jersey.

Unfortunately, Jay Cutler ruined the night for us.

We went back to the ship and played Risk!

Last time weplayed that game it took almost five hours. Our Musical Directo ended up winning that game.

This time, it was much shorter.

Mark came in 5th. Robyn came in 4th. Brett came in 3rd. Jeannie came in 2nd.

I came in 1st.

The world was dominated in 85 minutes.

Jeannie and I went north near Coconut Marketplace on Thursday.

We went by the hotel where they filmed Blue Hawaii.

It's in bad shape.

We had dinner at an amazing restaurant.

They had sweet potato ravioli. It was spectacular.

We also had Mahi-Mahi, Hawaiian Moonfish, shrimp, lobster bisque and macadamia nut-lobster won-tons.

It was a nice evening.

We went snorkeling in Kona.

It was nice and refreshing.

The water was warm and amazingly clear.

When we were done, Brett and Robyn went down the slide on the boat.

On the way back we ran past some spinner dolphins.

Last time I mentioned we had seen whales and dolphins, I was chastized for not including pictures. Well, this time, I don't have pictures…but I have videos!

Yesterday we went to the movies.

I can't express how much I love going to the movies. Back in Chicago I used to go to the movies once or twice a week.

I've managed to keep that up here in Hawaii. That makes me oh so happy.

Afterward, Jeannie and I took Robyn and Brett to Menchies so they could try the frozen yogurt.

Look how much stuff everyone put in their yogurt.

After yogurt, everyone went and looked at the puppies.

It was a fun day.

There's a new podcast up. You should listen to it.

Sept 1st…

Jeannie and I were walking through the mall in Hilo when she got a text message from Brett.

She immediately began screaming and jumping up and down.

"They're back! They're back!" she yelled.

She then ran out the door and headed straight to Starbucks.

"Who's back?" I asked, confused.

"Pumpkin Spice Latte!" she yelled.
She's very happy.

She's waited 10 months for this day to arrive.

For those folks waiting to hear the newest episode of our podcast, both Jeannie and Brett were sick Wednesday through Friday so we had to skip that episode.

We recorded an episode on Saturday, but Brett broke his new Macbook.

However, we should have everything figured out by this evening and the new episode will be available sometime today!
